Opportunity

The anticipated Ethiopia electronic Health Information Systems (Ethiopia e-HIS) will support the Government of Ethiopia to improve the quality of health services, quality of life, and to create a sustainable health care system through the use of data for decision making. The project will support information technology systems and data repository, build a culture of data use, capacity building and governance, and strengthen stakeholders and donors collaboration.

To support this activity, we are looking for talented programmers with up-to-date knowledge in C++, Java, PhP, and other languages to design and build secure, clean and flawless functional code. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the use of technology and software building to improve lives. S/he needs to demonstrate a historic tendency for attention to detail and an analytical mind. Programmers will be in charge of developing, modifying, adjusting, testing and launching software required for the success of this activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

The proposed programmer must be able to do the following:

  • Collaborate with the Chief of Party and other relevant team members to produce software designs

  • Formulate program specifications and basic prototypes

  • Develop mockups with required functionalities

  • Transform software designs and specifications into high quality functioning code in the appropriate language (Java, JavaScript, PhP, or Zend as defined by user requirements and design documents).

  • Test code periodically to ensure it produces the desirable results and perform debugging when necessary

  • Perform upgrades to make software and systems more secure and efficient

  • Collaborate with technical writers to create documentation for user support

  • Write Sql scripts and stored procedures using MySQL, PostgreSQL.

  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Must be flexible and adaptable.

  • Assist with other areas of the HMIS as needed.

  • Ability to successfully write high quality software.

  • Develop and implement unit testing processes and procedures.

The proposed programmer must meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s or Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or a Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems is required and must have been obtained within 24 months of the application date for this entry level position.

  • 5 years proven experience as a programmer

  • Ability to program in languages such as C++, Java (J2EE), XML, PhP, Python etc.

  • Experience using frameworks such as CodeIgniter, Laravel, or other

  • Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (JSF, Wicket, GWT, Spring MVC)

  • Excellent knowledge with relational databases, SQL or Post gre SQL, and ORM technologies.

  • Experience with Application Development Life Cycle methodology.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ethiopian national preferred
